Job Description / Responsibility
- Abstract :
- Cosmetics Microbiologist with chemistry knowledge ensures personal care products are safe, effective, and free from harmful microbial contamination. They combine biological testing with chemical formulation knowledge to test raw materials and finished products, preventing spoilage and ensuring regulatory compliance.The following comprehensive job description outlines the responsibilities, required qualifications, and daily functions for this hybrid role.
- Core Responsibilities:
- Microbiological Testing & Safety Conduct routine microbiological analysis (e.g., bioburden, sterility, and preservative efficacy tests) on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished formulas.
- Design and perform Preservative Efficacy Tests (PET) to validate that product formulations can withstand consumer use.
- Evaluate and classify the microbial load of products during stability and shelf-life studies
- .Chemistry & Formulation Support Collaborate directly with formulation chemists to ensure new cosmetic products are chemically and micro biologically stable.
- Analyze chemical interactions to understand how different preservatives (e.g., C₈H₁₈O₃, parables, organic acids) behave in various formulations.
- Conduct standard chemical quality parameters like pH and viscosity testing, which often directly impact microbial growth environments.
- Quality Control (QC) & Compliance Investigate Out-of-Specification (OOS) or Out-of-Trend (OOT) microbiological results to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain a sterile and compliant laboratory environment following Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and industry standards (e.g., ISO 22716, FDA cosmetic guidelines).
Educational Requirements
- Master of Science (MSc) in Microbiology
- Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm)
- Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or Cosmetic Science.
Experience Requirements
- 3 to 7 years
- The applicants should have experience in the following business area(s): Agro based firms (incl. Agro Processing/Seed/GM), Cosmetics/Toiletries/Personal Care, Herbal Medicine, Science Laboratory
Additional Job Requirements
- Age 30 to 45 years
- Only Male
- 2–5 years of hands-on laboratory experience, specifically within the personal care, pharmaceutical, or food and beverage industries. Microbiology Skills: Proficiency in aseptic techniques, microbial identification, culture media preparation, and environmental monitoring.

- A solid understanding of organic chemistry, analytical techniques (e.g., HPLC, titration), and chemical compatibilities.
