Job Description / Responsibility
- Supply Chain & Logistics Management
- Because fashion is highly trend-driven and seasonal, the Head of Ops must coordinate the flow of raw materials, manufacturing, warehousing, and global distribution. This requires a deep understanding of lead times, vendor negotiation, and global logistics to prevent delayed product launches.
- Inventory & Merchandising Optimization
- The ability to balance stock levels directly impacts profitability. Operations heads use retail analytics and inventory management software to track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) like sell-through and turnover rates, ensuring popular items remain in stock while minimizing excess or dead inventory.
- Cross-Functional Leadership
- You will serve as the crucial link connecting creative teams (designers, pattern makers) with commercial departments (marketing, sales, and retail). Strong leadership, team building, and conflict resolution are vital to keep all departments aligned with the brand's overarching business objectives.
- Financial Acumen & Budgeting
- Operations heads are responsible for resource allocation, cost optimization, and maximizing profit margins. You must be highly proficient in financial modeling and data analysis (often using advanced Excel or ERP systems) to manage production costs, pricing strategies, and operational budgets.
- Quality Assurance & Control
- A fashion house relies on its brand reputation, which is directly tied to the craftsmanship and quality of its garments. Operations leaders must enforce strict quality standards at every stage of production—from fabric sourcing and factory audits to final garment finishing.
- Product Sensibility & Trend Adaptability
- While primarily a business and logistics role, understanding the "emotional value" of fashion is what separates good operations leaders from great ones. You must understand the creative process and seasonal market trends to ensure that your operational strategy perfectly supports the creative vision of the fashion house.
